In the Northeast today we got an ice storm. Which is super gross to experience, but lovely to photograph. When the weather app lists the current weather as “ice pellets,” you know you’re in for a true New England treat. At least it’s pretty! :)
I’m feeling like I have too much stuff. The consumerism of Black Friday and Christmas has me feeling bogged down in things. I’m also guilty of using online shopping to avoid feelings and check out of the real world. So, I love this idea from Ann Patchett – “My Year of No Shopping.” I’m not committing to a full year right off the bat because I want to be gentle with myself for all of my 2018 resolutions. I’m starting now, at the winter solstice, and will use the spring equinox (March 20th) as a check-in point. I’m looking forward to prioritizing experiences over things, getting creative with what I already have, and entering the new year a little lighter!
On this same theme, Jess Lively has a lovely quote to keep in mind: “You don’t have to own to appreciate.”
All of that said about limiting my shopping, here is one meaningful shopping success from 2017! A dear friend and I are embarking on some parallel adventures in the year ahead, which promise to be exciting but uncertain, and likely to involve at least a little challenge and loneliness. So when I came across these "grown up" (and subtle) friendship necklaces, I jumped on it. It's a beautiful way to feel connected.
John Krasinski's lip sync battle. He totally channels Justin Timberlake in "Bye, Bye, Bye." I dare you to watch this and not end up with a crush on John Krasinski!
